3rd XI beat Camberley by 2 wickets

2 Jun 2023

It was the first real warm week of the season. The 3s hosted Camberley at the home of cricket.

The visitors got off to a fast start before Tas put a quick end to that with a bail trimmer top of off. Before trapping their number 3 LBW.

Camberley came out looking to play shots from ball one which meant they were always in the game. The Hill managed to take consistent wickets with three for James Everett (3-29). And two for George Barrett including their set batsman who was on 43.

Dropped catches held the Hill back from having to chase a much lower score. Despite getting part of his hand to it James Allen-Perry was lucky not to have any worse injuries when the ball was driven straight back at him three balls into his spell and burst through the hands and straight in the face, there were many drop catches from the Hill but that doesn't count as one. Luckily no long lasting damage for JAP. Camberley kindly gave us a fielder; the favour was later returned. Drops continued as we looked to end proceedings AO took the final catch on the sixth juggle. Well finished by the stand in skipper DC (2-14)

The Hill were chasing 160, it got off to the worst possible start when Oisin and Aj were both out for single figure scores.

AO and Chris Webb steadied the ship in a 54-run partnership. Just as he felt set AO. was caught behind for 20. Chris just went to the next gear in an innings of 9 fours and 2 maximums. Warren was given out LBW (braver man than me Zeeshan) and Evs was bowled. The skipper came in and hit a vital 17 to take the Hill close.

Taz in vintage style looked to attack. He was joined at the crease by Zeeshan for what the “last wicket” was. Legs started twitching and thoughts of messaging JAP were growing to get him back in a pure Undertaker vibe. However, we should’ve always known never doubt Taz as he hit the winning runs. But take nothing away from the 11 balls defended by Zeeshan to keep us in it.

Another tight affair for the 3s, bring on Chertsey on Saturday!
