Hampton Hill 3rd XI defeated Teddington Town by 6 wickets
Arriving at Barn Elms there was a sense of optimism Stuart Broad and England were causing chaos to the New Zealand batting order, the 3rd XI were hoping they could cause the same.
Skipper Paul Thornley won the toss and with recent weather and a look at the pitch, the right decision was to put the Town into bat.
It took one delivery, name a better combination, Tahir Butt and the new ball. Clean bowled top of leg stump. Taz would then go onto to pick up the big wicket of their number 3 batsman, which took a smart catch from Dave Coates who made it look very easy.
It was then the turn of the Exworths, Ian and Ryan, both getting straight into their rhythm on a tough pitch for batting.
With the pair of them picking up four wickets a piece, with all of Ryan’s wickets being bowled.
Ian's fourth wicket meant that he picked up the milestone of 500 Play Cricket wickets which of course hasn’t included all wickets that he has taken before Play Cricket. Congratulations Ian!
A superb bowling and fielding performance from The Hill who bounced back perfectly after a tough defeat the week before.
Hampton Hill required 58 to win.
In classic Hampton Hill fashion, no chase is as simple as you first think.
Aj was trapped LBW for 16 after getting the chase off to a good start. Before wickets of AO and Harman fell in consecutive balls.
Will Owens was then tempted into a moon ball as he was bowled for 4.
Before the skipper put to bed any half chance of the Town getting back into the game. A controlled 22 saw the Hill home, in a game that finished just before 3 o’clock.
An important 20 points for the 3rd XI, who look nicely set in second place in the table after five matches.
Player of the Match: Ian Exworth 4-11 and 500 Play Cricket wickets
