This weekend the 2nd XI headed to Port’s Favourite Ground, Thames Ditton.
With the sun shining the boys elected to field due to a superb bowling and fielding performance the week before. The innings started off strong with Murts and Merch putting on rapid opening spells, in the face of two aggressive openers, but without luck.
In an innovative move from the skipper, Mr Porter was called upon for the first time this year and his first delivery dismissed their number 2’s off stump.
With MoM IanE also being called upon at the other end, the scoreboard seemed to have stopped as the OAP’s combined 20 overs grabbed 2 wickets for the Hill and gave away just 40 runs, with figures of 1-12 for Ian, and 1-28 for Ports, but there was still plenty of time left in the innings.
TD decided to attack the remaining overs and with some fielding errors and mistakes of varying levels, ended posting 217 for the Hill to chase.
There’s really not much to say about the batting as no one seemed to be able to get going and the constant left arm bowlers were a struggle to get away. The Hill ended on 108 a long way from the target.
